A lil discussion place for my songs coming out this Friday.

RED MOON

This was the first song that I wrote on guitar. I'm normally a keyboard player, but I wanted to start learning and utilizing other instruments in my music. @gooman gave me a Fender Starcaster and SP-10 Amp, and I started learning chords to play with. I lean more towards rhythmic playing rather than lead guitar. The song is a pretty simple progression. I wanted to go into the writing process with an almost childish lens. This is my attempt at making a Saba Lou song, specifically Good Habits (and Bad). I thought about the one time I saw a Strawberry Moon in STL and thought it was pretty. That is the lyrical content in a nutshell. I recorded this and Lightning Bugs as my final project for college. Sonically, I wanted this song to be as fuzzy and scratched as possible. Webster has a Neve Kelso Console with some dirty gain and EQ knobs. I felt this was the perfect time to utilize that. The recording process was awkward at first, going through takes that I felt sounded shitty. I recorded the bridge section and outro sections by themselves as I frustratedly thrashed a couple of chords out.

Mixing changed my tune though, as I started distorting and hard compressing the elements together until it got to that slap-in-the-face quality that I was looking for. Lastly, I noodled a little synth solo at the end. I knew I wanted this to be my first song that I put out, as it's like a thesis to my sound that I want to cultivate. Noisy. Psychy. Bleeps and Bloops.
