A lil discussion place for my songs coming out this Friday.

Lightning Bugs

Some of the songs I write start as me playing with synth/sound design. I wanted to make the same yowling sound as in Mac DeMarco's "Dreams from Yesterday". I couldn't find where the actual synth came from, so I layered two different sounds together and made a little melody. I then put some keys under it and began the first idea for Lightning Bugs. Originally, it was called "In The Morning". Before I even thought about lyrics, the song visually felt like seeing the sunset/sunrise. I asked myself, "Where do lightning bugs go during the day?" That then became symbolic to my anxious habits when not feeling productive, not having a place to escape. A recent practice of mine is to go to a park and just walk around, embracing the area. I would have the instrumental play on loop while I think of lyrics. Soon enough, I put together two stanzas that would make up the song. @gooman played some rhythm guitar over the track that worked into a counter-melody over all of the synthy bits. It gave a Connan Mockasin/Soft Hair touch to the track (Thank You Goo :D).
