I'm not a fan of the term "outsider art," though I feel that, in ways, my music can be considered a form of it. I'm not a classically trained musician, nor do I try to appeal to mainstream pop standards. I feel like when people talk about outsider art, they really are romanticizing this idea of a tortured artist, using art to cope with illness. Even when it's not that, it just seems pretentious to think that artists who don't make accessible "High Art," should be categorized into some new concept. I consider myself more of a naïve artist. I make simple songs that I enjoy and hope that others may as well. It's a challenge cause I look at the popular acts in the STL scene and don't feel that I fit in. Not that I necessarily mind having a niche, but I want to find more people with similar niches. There are musicians in the region that I appreciate and would love to collaborate with. Hopefully, with more of my stuff I put out, I'll be able to start finding that community so I feel like less of an outsider.
